As many of you know close to nothing is really anonymous. When you comment on something it will tell your name. If it does not, your IP-address will be easily found. It is even easy to know where someone is when surfing on the net, if you have the right tools. Therefore there can sometimes be important to be able to stay fully anonymous. This is something that can not be guaranteed but by using the deep or dark web it is much harder to track you. It is important to know that Tor is not the same as the dark web. Tor can be compared to google. If google gets taken down the internet will still be there. For Tor, if it gets taken down the dark web will still be there. Everything you find on the regular web is only about 4% of the whole internet! This means 96% is the deep and the dark web.

If you want more information on what is to be found on the dark web or what the difference between the deep and the dark web is, just contact me either on this site or Instagram (@basic.hacking). Then I might do a more in-depth explanation on the subject!

Why is it much safer?

The reason the tor browser is safer is due to the jumping between different computers. It will be sent through different computers which will each lay one layer of encryption (that's why it is called onion). It will then be much harder to decrypt. To add to the list, nothing will be saved automatically (at least when you have followed the security steps as well).

How to download it:

1. Go to https://www.torproject.org/download/ and choose your computer type. This will be a guide for kali and other Linux computers, so choose the penguin.

ree

2. Open the terminal and type "cd Downloads". Then type "sudo tar -xvJf tor-browser..." you should type the name of the file. If you do not know exactly the name you can use the tab button after typing some of the text. Or type the command "ls" and it will appear all the files in the directory.

3. Type "cd tor-browser_en_us" to go to the new directory.

4. Type "sudo ./start-tor-browser.desctop" This is to run the file tor. Next time you want to enter the file tor you will need to find tor in the same directory as now so then you will type "cd Downloads/tor-browser_en_us" and write "sudo ./start-tor-browser.desctop.

ree

5. Click connect on this site shown in the picture on the right.

6. Let it just install for a little time and then you should enter the Tor browser. If you know all the safety stuff the rest will probably bore you to death. But if not it is very important to follow all the steps. One by one and make sure you stay safe on Tor because, without the safety part of this, Tor will not be safer than the normal web. The chances are that you instead get exposed to some really dangerous hacker.

Safety steps:

ree

1. Start off by clicking on the green marked box. If this alternative do not exist please click on the onion.

ree

2. Set the safety on "safest" this will make the usage of tor a lot slower but will be necessary if you want to be safe. Tor is nothing to play around with, there are sometimes real consequences.

ree

3. Unclick every alternative except the three on the picture.

ree

4. Set history to never remember.'

Big no-nos on Tor:

  • Never maximize the tor window.

  • Do not download anything at all. It can be illegal or contain viruses and so on.

  • Do not login to anything, not even fake use a user if not necessary.

  • Do not have any bookmarks.

  • Do not reset the safety settings to default.

  • Make a fake profile that you can use. If you ever need to use a name or address or something, make sure to have all written up with all the information. This means you should write down a fake name that has a fake mail (if needed). Use another address in another country and so on. NEVER use real information.

  • Maybe use VPN (I will discuss that below).

  • Everything you see on the dark web is not true, in fact the most are fake. So look out for traps.

VPN and Tor?

The answer is both yes and no. There are advantages of using Tor and VPN the advantages of using them mixed. There are then two different ways of using them.

Tor over VPN:

This means that you will run Tor on your VPN:

You --> VPN --> Tor --> Internet

VPN over Tor:

This is when you run VPN on Tor:

You --> Tor --> VPN --> Internet

Of these two it can be argued which one is the best. The first one, Tor over VPN, will be safe against persons on Tor. It will be harder for people on Tor to find out who you are and that is a really good thing. But it means that you are not protected from the VPN company so it will be harder to be anonymous, because everything you do goes through your VPN. If it is logged everything you do will be saved there. It does not mean they will spy on you, but if someone would hack them (which happens) your secrets might not be secret anymore. Then the second alternative, VPN over Tor, means that you will get a VPN when you are on Tor. This will not be as secure but the VPN company will not know who you are. Sometimes you can also buy the VPN with bitcoins which will make it even more anonymous.

With this said I would still recommend you to use VPN and I would probably recommend the second alternative, VPN over Tor. This due to it is possible for people to see what you are doing if you are using VPN first and most people prefer free VPN which will (most) definitely log everything. On how to set this up, you either google or contact me. So if I do a part two I can include this if you want to know.

If you get stuck or want to know something just contact me.
