Hacking has been around for a long time. As in most other things, there is different types of hackers. There are White hat, Gray hat, and Black hat hackers.

The White hat hackers are the ones that hack in a good purpose. The White hat hackers are only hacking own devices or with permission from the owner. But are still using the same methods like black hat hackers.

The Black hat hackers are those who hack other devices without permission which is illegal. Black hat hackers use the knowledge for gaining something from others. 

The Gray hat hackers are something in between they hack others without permission, but they later tell the owner about the flaws. This means that they are breaking the law but for a good purpose.
